It's difficult to sum up a lifetime in a page. What do you want to know? From the standpoint of 'you' selling my products?
I have been in BUSINESS since the early 1970's selling moslty Alaska theme in Alaska. However, began doing the Tucson Fossil gem show in about 1999. Did the Seattle WHOLESALE show for a while. I retail a lot, but find I can create more then I can sell and wish to free up more of my time as I get older, so more interested in increasing my wholesale business. .
I'm a character, 'sellable' as a ECCENTRIC gifted artist. I have PROMOTIONAL material consisting of 4 page story about me in the New York Times, 5 times in ALASKA magazine, the cover of a couple magazines and lots of visual references.
I do one of a kind hand done items , moslty pendants but some earrings, belt. BUCKLES hair pieces and there are my 8 books in print as well as custom knives. It all adds PROVENANCE credibility as to who I am, certainly not items from China relabeled as 'made right here.'
Some items lend to reordering, in that one PRODUCT line consists of lost wax cast items. Still one of a kind in that each batch of metal I use is unique, but same designs. There are in fact issues dealing in large amounts of 'one of kind.' You cannot re-order exact items!
My apeal and good long term customers tend to be those who think like I do. They want AUTHENTIC hand craft unique one of a kind, reliably, at affordable wholesale prices. Few artists can keep up with wholesale demand. I have been able to do this. Most of my wholesale CUSTOMERS like the closen one on one having somone to work with who can customize orders, accept RETURNED unsold INVENTORY at the e3nd of the season and work with me as one might deal with a friend. I ofgten creat terms for each CUSTOMER, to fit the need. The diea being I wnt to mke money, I want you to make money and be a return customer, so whatever that takes. I'm creative in business as well as art.
I have a easy repair and return policy msotly you be nice to me and I'll be nice to you. I usually have a lifetime GUARANTEE on my work. A knife can be RETURNED 20 years later, and I i'll fix or replace it.
I generally find my own raw materials, cut and work them, do all aspects of the craft. I often make all my own beads and custom claps in necklaces. I GENERAL for custom knives, work my own steel, etch it crete a custom guard and cast it, find and work the handle material.
I end up with more raw materials t hen I can uswe myself so part of my BUSINESS is selling not just jewelry but raw materials to other crafters. A nice factor here is, all the raw I sell I also work withso can answer questions, know what will work for specific needs.
Keep in mind what I am an artist, not scientist. Meaning there are advantages and DISADVANTAGES to one of a kind unique. Some items will be better, or turn out well, while others are an experiment that did not fail, but is not as exciting. I try to price accordingly, but makes it hard to meet DEADLINES with specific items in specific price ranges. I retail items as low as $1 for raw Alaska CRYSTAL, on up to $30,000 for a SPECIMENS mammoth tusk. I have sold several 'over $5,000' necklaces in my life but average between $35 and $65. (wholesale at least half).
