Some people arrive at my web site and understand it immediately,  it all makes sense. Others are confused , - cant figure it out. Here's the quick and dirty version of what's going on (long version = my books). Normal, civilized, and ordinary, I consider insults. I spent 25 years of my life as a savage, alone in the Alaska wilds. I learned how to do things my way. I live in another world.  If you like my art- appreciate my raw materials 'different and unique' are a direct result of how I view the world. To do business with me we need to define things the same way. I provide links to explain how I define for sale, special order, raw, soon, business, that might help us sing from the same sheet of music. I've gone through a great effort to avoid misunderstandings.Yes I'm eccentric, but luckily 'gifted' that's why I don't have to do it your way

Miles,

Thank you so much for your time. I completely understand that some people are picky and I know the value of ivory. I am very glad that I found you and I plan to use you for all of my ivory and walrus needs. If I could afford it right now, I would take all of the pieces. All of them are beautiful to me. I would like, however, pieces #1, #2, #4, #5, and #7. I will be sending payment of $310.00 by pay pal in a couple of minutes. Again, thank you for your kind and quick service.

You are truly an artist.

Thank you,

Hello Miles,
I got my package today and the items you sent were fantastic! I am thrilled to have found someone like you to buy from, so much so in fact that I am going to order the other two fossil lion fangs from you. I believe they were $95 each, so $190 total, and I will paypal it to you as soon as I email this. Best wishes to you and I hope everything has settled down a bit on your end. I will also be glad to show you photos of the finished pieces I make with these, especially the section of wolf jaw. I have big plans for that one.

Thanks again, and the money for the two other fossil lion fangs is on its way. Do you know if they are all from the same animal by chance? Just curious.

Subject: Howdy up North my Friend

Got the teeth and am very pleased. Ill send you some photos when she gets the sweater done. Maybe a week, had a minor set back on the sleeves.

Hope you had a nice Christmas, the white part is most likely an automatic up there.

I was looking at some of your stuff and have a question. Do you put custom handles on sheath knives? I have a couple that I would like done in mammoth tooth or tusk maybe. One has no hilt, is that a problem? The one I am thinking of is a Dozier camp knife. The tang I guess is the size of the scales, know what I mean. I just found a photo so Ill attach. Its not the same but pretty darn close.

Ill be in touch
Happy New Year!

Monday, December 28, 2009

Miles, Merry Christmas and I hope everything is going well for you.
I thought I would write and tell you that my wife loved the knife you made.
Of course, we love everything Alaskan. Have a great new year. Sincerely, Buda Jerry

Thursday, December 24, 2009
Hey Miles,

The two knives you made for me have been delivered and the guy loves them.

He thinks the art work is great... and the functionality of the knives are also. He especially likes the larger handle on the fishing knife.

Thanks again, you do such great work.

Good luck on completing your third book and I hope the winter is good to you...

Hope to see you next year when I'll back in the area,
Ray

Good evening Miles,

I just started your book, and wow! What an interesting life, I'm enjoying it very much. I'm already up to page 154. You have some many interesting and insightful things to say, and a few things I feel I can relate to to a certain extent. I remember when I was a kid I wanted to live in Alaska, hunt, and have my own dog-sled team and run the Iditarod. Ha! Before that I wanted to be a railway hobo. I was such an odd kid. The dog sled and hunting dream has never fully left me though, I hope to get my hunting license sometime soon, and have my own homestead someday.

Just letting you know that everything arrived safe and sound. Thank you for autographing the book, I looked through it and it looks very interesting, I can't wait to sit down and start reading it (probably over the holiday vacation!). I also showed it to a friend, who is an artisan who also works with bone and lapidary, and she's very interested not only in getting a copy of your book for herself, but also in doing business with you, as I showed her your website. She'll probably get in contact with you soon, her name is Raven.

Those mammoth ivory beads are real awesome, and now I desire some for myself! The capped fossil tooth you sent is going to a friend who is serving as a combat medic in Afghanistan. He loves wolves, and he'll really appreciate this unique little piece of home.

Tuesday, December 08, 2009

Saturday, December 05, 2009
Hi, sorry about the mix up. Yes I ordered 2 wolf claws with the howling wolf caps. Are these able to be put on a necklace or earring? I want one for an earring for a man so I didn't want anything too gaudy or big. The other one I will save for me and make a necklace. Great selection of items! Also like your philosophies regarding life.
That is why I bought from you! Thanks, and happy holidays.
Diane Holdreith

Sunday, November 29, 2009
Yes I used the knife you made to cut the skin off my deer, and it worked very well. It handles easy for getting in close between the skin and meat to cut through the clear membrane that binds them together. A very good design for the wrist to control the blade without holding the knife in an awkward position. I like it a lot. It looks cool too. People I show it to just stare at it for a while cause they never seen one like it around here. They don't sell these at Walmart. Ha! Mark

Sunday, November 29, 2009
Miles, I received the knife today and it looks great. Really unique item and very impressive. Thanks alot for the work. Keep me posted on the solid gold mammoth request. Thanks, Buda Jerry

Thursday, November 26, 2009
Thanks Miles I can't wait, what a cool thing to complete my first knife. Will be taking my knife to another knife maker this next weekend and he will heat treat it ($15.00). Once mailed back to me the tang I made and the mammoth ivory goes on. Then I will pick up some leather at Tandys and finish a nice sheath for it. Thanks again Miles for your patience and working with me on this special project.

Tuesday, November 03, 2009
Hey Miles,

This looks fantastic, I am loving this. It's better than what I hoped for, actually. The $200 total sounds great, I'll pay you with paypal very soon and thank you for everything. I will do this as soon as possible for your convenience.

Once again, thank you for your hard work!

Take care,
Katie

Greetings Miles,

I just wanted to let you know your package arrived safe a couple days ago. I would have emailed much sooner but work had me busy. I just love the stuff you picked out--and my friend is very happy too. I was pleasantly surprised to see two wolf skulls in there (they're very nice), and I really enjoyed the extra goodies you included. The wolf fang you selected is real nice, and all the broken fangs will be incorporated in some sort of art project. I'll send you some photos once I'm done with things if you like. In a couple weeks I'll probably be contacting you again for another order.

As well as artwork, some of these things I use in educational nature programs for children, as part of the job I do for the county government. You'd be amazed how their faces light up when they see these things. It gives them such a deeper appreciation for nature, and some of them come from the inner city and don't have the opportunities to see animals and/or touch artifacts from nature, so it's a great experience for them.

As always, a wonderful experience working with you. Thanks very much and hope you're doing well. We'll be in touch again soon.

~Erin

In any case, thank you for your business once again. Your materials help spice up my artwork and give me something amazing to have in my hands, and your website is very informative in dealing with/learning about these raw materials and helping me improve on my technique. I'd also like to work out some wholesale with you in the future...I'm very low maintenance where that goes and require little if any picture-taking, and can show you examples and photos of my work and the vending I do with my friends at area events sometime.

In any case, thanks again and hope all is well with you. We'll be in touch!

~Erin

Miles, Just received the Eagle Rock and it is stupendous. You are getting better each time in your old age. Really appreciate it and will be staying in contact. All My Best, Buda Jerry

Monday, September 21, 2009
Both packages came today. Bob says the leg bone is perfect and he can get two knives from it. I'm going to hang the shoulder blade on the wall for now. I'm keeping all the packing material for it, and the invoices, because I travel across the Canada/US border and I don't want any grief from Customs either way -- it'll help that it says fossils.

I'll wear the fang around my neck most of the time. I've been dreaming about a lion a lot recently -- I'm really glad you had this. And there ARE times occasionally, when I want to dress like a girl -- I'll get a silver chain for the mammoth ivory bead, and wear it instead then. Although, I think a lion's fang around my neck when I'm wearing a long skirt and heels might send a better message about who I am than not. Thanks for including the bead -- it's beautiful.

I've just sent $40 with PayPal. Your invoice said $30 for the shoulder blade and the postage was $9.40. If there should be more for time and mileage, let me know.

Thanks,
MorningStar

I look forward to working with you; it is refreshing to be dealing with someone who understands & respects what I do & how important it is to me. I consider my pieces a way to honor the animal's spirit - all are created with love & dignity. I don't mean to sound like a nut job....this is important to me. And you get it - that is very important to me too. Looking forward to my package! :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR GUIDANCE!

I just found your web site - cannot tell you how refreshing it is to read your philosophical views and values. It speaks volumes (all good as far as I am concerned).

I feel that I can simply tell you what I want to do and say "send me five pieces of (? whatever?)" - and leave the choice up to you - And, know that you would send me the best pieces for my needs. Your being an artist too, gives me even more confidence.

Hi, #1 email
I tried to copy and paste a pix to this but would not paste so here goes.
My hubby and I are retired and struggling to start our own jewelry business. I design, he does the wire work.
He is very , very good but................we need something that others don't have in our area such as your mammouth beads and any other fossil beads you sell.
We don't have much capital yet, but are working on selling ordinary beads right now to obtain some working capital.
Seems like both of us have always been a day late and a dollar short and we would really like to have designer pieces to make a "killing " with, so to speak.
Could you email some pix, and prices of beads you have and teeth that are drilled. We are signed up to do a "Indian pow wow" at Fort Robinson in Nebraska in June and would love to have some really neat pieces to take there.
Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated.
Any fossil chips that could be drilled for a bracelet or necklace could be used now until we can afford better and the best.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help and for responding.
Gloria & Chuck Hill
Lisco, Nebraska
(now wintering near Quartzite, Arizona)

Hey David
Glad the tooth arrived and you are happy. As for the size. Many people selling are full of shit, or do not have any knowledge themselves and have never seen a real timber wolf fang and offer fangs from a lower 48 state wolf that is closer to a coyote. Our wolves can weigh over 200 pounds and be over 7 feet long-bigger then many bears. Some more common wolves that are not timber wolf are only 50 pounds. You probably got a coyote tooth that someone called a wolf. Anyhow got to go and good luck drilling hope it came out ok. Miles.

Monday, January 05, 2009
Dear Miles,

the tooth just arrived to me!!!! WOW!!!! It is incredibly huge if I compare it to my other wolf tooth, it seems like it is prehistoric?
Thank you very much.
Please, tell me how is possible the tooth has 7cm?

I am going to try to drill the small hole in it and let you know. I hope and pray it will stay ok.

Have a nice day

David

Thanks again, Miles. Take care and talk to you soon!

P.S. I'm wearing your fossil tooth pendant with the howling wolf cap I bought from you some months back--it's awesome and I still get nice comments on it when I wear it to work. I work with children and the kids totally dig it.

Hi Miles,

I hope you stayed high and dry during the flooding in Nenana. I've been watching the situation on the NewMiner website and often think of you.

I'll be taking my beautiful knife to Canada next week on my annual walleye fishing trip. I know the guys will be envious when they see it. It's a unique knife and I'm delighted to have a piece of your artwork. Thanks for making it and selling it to me.

Ralph Bolt

Miles,

Hey, I just opened the package (away from the office for four days). Everything looks great, and the fangs in particular are impressive "in person". I'm still waiting for the center piece to arrive; once it does and I string this all together I'll send you a picture of it.

I have at least one other project for the not-too-distant future that I will be talking with you about.

Thanks for being available and doing what you do. Keep up the good work!

-Guy

Monday, November 17, 2008
Hi Miles,

Miles you have a eye in art that only a few have. Great piece. Make me a 100 - let use gold!!

Any of the options work for me. Miles - no bull shitting here - Korite - owns 90% of this market. The quality of the gem you have if you set it in gold start retail price would be ~$2,500.00.

Friday, October 31, 2008
Hi Miles,

The fang has found its way to me. Its beautifull! I'm very happy with it. It arrived just in time to be worn tomorrow in a samhuin ritual. Thanks for the opportunity you gave me to buy it, thanks for ur advise on the glue, and since all good things come in triads, thanks for the comic you wrapped the tooth in, nice touch :)

It's been good doing bussiness with you, I will keep an eye on your website,

I wish you safety through the winter, and may you never go hungry,

Hella

Hello Miles,

Eager to show you the Damacus knife that you supplied to me. This is my first job. I just can spend 10-20 minutes per day, and it took me more than 1 month to finish it. Though it still contains some minor imperfections but I'm really happy with it. Thank you for the blade!

Wish you all the best!

Hi Miles,

I got my package yesterday. That was fast considering it had to go

You are right - the opal is even prettier when you can see it in person.

Thanks very much!

Hi Miles,

I got the knife today......it is beautiful and really feels nice in my hand.....a good weight.
The blade is really sharp and the lock back mechanism is so easy to use.
I have others
that are really difficult to unlock.

Thank you so much for doing this for me.

Hi Miles, wanted to let you know i got my bear claw today.great job, thank you very much. gary

Wednesday, January 23, 2008
Miles,

Wow! Is that ever a beautiful piece of ancient mammoth tusk I just got in the mail.
Thank you!
I've put it away in the back room of my house and I'll watch it carefully
to be ready if any cracks start to develop after its change from your climate
to mine. The temperatures are running between 30 and 45 degrees (we even
had snow last night on the mountains in the San Francisco bay area, where I live),
so the ivory has received a nice welcome to this new, strange place.

Thanks again,
Robin

days ago. The are amazing!!!

Thank you for going along with the ruse and playing it so well. I have done some ceremony with them and am now wearing the fang
regularly. Please share with me any helpful tips on caring for them.

Thank you also for the owl feathers. We shared them.

Greetings Miles,

Authenticity is my favorite thing. You are the real deal & a genuine survivalist. Your page is a great resource. I'm sure I will refer back to it often. Found it in a Google search for tips on how to repair my mother-of-pearl carved hawk pendant. The head broke off where the hole was drilled through the sides of the neck. It was glued in the past but never stays attatched. It was made by the artist Gary Knack who may have his own page by now. I got side-tracked, intrigued by your site.

I also was hoping to learn the best glue for re-attatching a clasp to a stem of fossilized tusk or bone, I believe. It is part of a set of intricately carved feather earrings. Seeing as to how you are in the Interior these are not materials you'd come across. My son got me the earrings last year while he still lived in Fairbanks. Is it possible you made them? I live on 2 acres in the Kenai Peninsula and respect the rigors of your way of life. Seems you are part of a dying breed and by the looks of your book, must be some kind of a living legend. Your work is quite beautiful. I just wanted to thank you for your tips and wish you all the best in the new year. Carolyn

Miles, I received the fossil Whale bone yesterday. Nice solid piece with a beautiful patina color. It will make for some beautiful knife handles and a conversational topic. Thanks once again Miles. Stay warm this winter and good luck on the Nenana Ice Classic this spring, maybe you will get lucky and win!

thank you so much.

I'll be coming back to you for more medicine supplies for sure !!!

stay warm up there my friend.

Tuesday, December 11, 2007
I appreciate the effort. Every other response I've been getting has been from mining wholesalers saying a minimum order of $500 with freight or things of that nature. It is good to be working with a person. The end of January would be kind of late, but if that is how long it may take for you to find it, then I can wait. I realize this has a cost, I realize you have mostly larger orders, but I trust your judgment and I think more people ought to do business like you. Aaron

Wednesday, December 05, 2007
Hello my friend,

Just sent you $60 through pay pal...

Thank you for the medicine that you are sending my way - and the warm words & e-mail conversations.

I will do my best to represent the wolf in the concrete jungle of NYC.

all the best,

Brad Teasdale

Hello Miles: My daughter is absolutely in heaven with some of the items I bought for her from you a few weeks ago. Saving a few for Xmas. Do you have any more copper nuggets..my favorite? She fell in love with the moonstone. Any more? Am dying the moose bone and stabilizing a bit of it to see how it turns out. Let me know on the availability of the two items above and cost. Thanks John

Hello Miles: Recd the goods yesterday. Good load! I am guessing that all the white bone is moose? My daughter will be ecstatic. The copper nuggets are great...I think my favorite of her stuff. Never saw anything like it except some big gold nuggets I have from the late 50s when I lived in Anchorage and gold was 30$/oz. How do you cut the mammoth tooth? Diamond saw? I think I'll have it stabilized first. The balleen is very interesting. I think it will be perfect for what I call a "gents" folder. I am going to have the moose bone stabilized and dyed. What do you do with the mammoth bone...or the dark grey stuff? How does it cut and finish? Thanks alot for the new toys...I love raw materials. I have been a wooworker for forty yrs now and still collect wood...by the thousands of board ft. Have aobut 40,000 bd ft now and still collecting more. Hah! Thanks again.

John

Thank you so much

I have never seen such Craftsmanship in all my years. As a Native American it does my Heart good to see such Spirit and Heart put into one's Creations.
I have a Large Lions tooth could you make it into a necklace for me? If so could you please let me know how to get things moving in order to get started?

I hope this finds you and your Family well;
Gary (Raven's Wolf) Crippen

Miles!! I got the parcel today!
Thank you so much for such a wonderful selection!! The Lynx jaw and Moose hoof were such a surprise! I am so delighted!! Thank you so much for such wonderful service! I am very sorry about the price of postage, but i have an idea. Since you were so good to your word i should like to order some more parts, and whatever i owe you we can put on the next bill. I especially liked the jaws and wondering if you had any others? i also wouldn't mind looking at proces for sections of moose antler, I would quite like a mooses' skull but i imagine that even the small ones would be such an immense size as to render the postage out of my range! Dang. Well i hope this message finds you well, i have a more stable source of income now so money isn't a huge problem, i look forward to dealing with you again in the VERY near future
All the best
Lily

WOW I love the knives I'm on the road currently and will be back in town on thursday, I will send a longer reply then, but I would love the idea of the wolves running with the silver moon and I would like to purchase both knives...
Talk to you soon and I could not be happier with the progress of both blades.
Thank you again so much

Hi Miles,
I got the moose bone and antler tine on Saturday, 9/22/07. The mail service is sure good between Alaska and here apparently. I know the antler tine will work out well. I think the moose bone will also be fine if I can figure out the correct places to cut it to get the best thickness and shape. They are both good pieces and I appreciate your handling the order so fast. I look forward to placing another little order soon.
Thanks, Miles.
Keith

wow that was fast! I'm really happy with the teeth, they're great.
I'll definitely recommend you to a friend of mine who also deals in animal remnants for art and jewelry, I think she'd really dig your online store and what it has to offer.

Hello Jeremy
You want ideas on how to use raw wolf bone for bowie handle? Much depends on the style handle and over all look you want it to have and cost. No bone on the wolf is big enough for a bowie knife, pain as it is. Usually this bone would be used on a bird skinner or fish knife needing a small diameter handle. Some pieces of bone could be inlayed into anything - just to have 'some' wolf bone in the construction. But another idea might be to take like 3-4 wolf leg bones and wrap them together as one. Maybe bind them at top and bottom with sinew. Then run pins different directions to help it better together. But I am not the designer of the knife I have not seen the blade I do not know enough about what you want- totally traditional some interesting new look old style modern look I do not know. Or bind the bones together then pour wax in the crevices - pull the bones off the wax then cast the wax in silver or bronze when in metal put the bones in the metal for a cool look and strong. I do not have time to sketch it all out. I do not know how much imagination you have or know what I am saying and can picture it. That is why I just build knives, then show people and if they like it great if not they have not been my boss and I sell to someone else. If you have some look in mind and at the same time must have wolf bone maybe the two things will not match. The bone has limitations and your design as you imagine it will not work. I have made bowies using moose leg bones hefty for a big handle. Maybe use wolf bone for the guard or end cap of the moose. This is just 2 minutes of ideas. Ask the builder of your knife what he suggests. Best I can do. Miles I enclose picture of bowie I made using moose leg bone.

Hello Miles,
My name is Bob Duprey and a number of years ago I traded some figured Maple hardwood to you for a piece of Wooly Mammoth tusk. I think that the wood was cut so as to be used as blanks for knife handles.
I cut up the bone that you sent to me and inlayed it into what I think was a very attractive peace pipe, and then I gave it to a good friend as a gift. He was very surprised and happy with the pipe. He gets to use it once in a while as he is a member of the Abenaki Nation here in northern Vermont.
I'm glad to see that your still slugging it out every day. I hope your having some fun (at least once in a while?) and meeting some good people.

Warm regards,
Bob

Hi miles, marc from Minnesota here. Just had to drop u a line and tell u how much I enjoy your site! I'm just getting into knife making and really appreciate your art and talent. Thanks so much for you inspiration. I was to Alaska once, elfin cove, incredible! Hope to make it back someday. marc

S Thanks Miles,
I trust your instincts on the Russian stuff. I'll be sure to wait until after your back from the function to see what else you have. I have a couple bucks to spend on some nice Russian/Siberian Ivory. If you can't send pictures from the show, this is ok. I appreciate your fine service and prices. Thanks again, and have a good time Miles.

Anyone who questions your methods is a fool, your end result is a knife. It does not matter how it got to be, just as long as people like it and are happy with it. I first notice the beauty of your knives, and the functionality second. I admire your skill and ingenuity, so please post up how you did this, I am curious as hell. Sure, some might tell you that you did this or that wrong, but fuck them. Constantly astounded and amazed, Damian.

Miles,

I got the ivory today and it looks really nice. I'll probably use it on a fixed blade but need some for a folder, do you have any more? A little smaller will work for folders or a little bigger and I can get a few out of it??

Thanks,

Mark

Hello Miles,

I received the mammoth ivory you sent, and I am very happy with it--Thank you! Unfortunately, I am realizing I'm being pulled in the direction of making guitar picks, for which I need really solid material - interior (no bark), no splits, cracks or separations...or at least few enough to be able to work around. I need to be able to slice it into thin slabs, so I need a pretty thick piece rather than thinner pieces. Maybe 6" length (going with the "grain") x 3" height x 4 - 6" wide. The dimensions are not all that important, as long as I have some good surface area to work with--bigger is generally better, of course. Sorry, I do not have any pictures. What do you have available in that kind of quality and how much would that run per pound?

By the way, although I can't use the pieces you sent for guitar picks, they are beautiful pieces and I'm sure I'll find other uses for them. They are exactly what I ordered and was expecting, and I'm certainly not going to return them and inconvenience you for my initial indecision!

Thanks again Miles, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas! I look forward to hearing from you again!

Thanks, Miles for the info on the Mammoth tooth its good to have someone give there valued opinion. So I have looked at some of your stuff and you are so right you have many to choose from so many infact it gets to be difficult to say the least and way I would like for you to price me two pieces of fossel walrus ivory 4" x 2" in width and a 1/4" thick I know there are different qualities something starting to get dark in color>
Also you show some elephant ivory peaces on your site but not wide enough or thick enough if you would please send me a price on a couple peaces 4" x 2" in width and 1/4" thick if you would these pieces will go on my hand guns going to use myself as the ginie pig. I am now working with some elk antlers I am retired and 60 years of age. I would like to sale some off your things if you have no problem with it. I am so impressed with the things that you have had the courage to do.
If you would give me a price on each of these two items separately and maby the shipping prices the Birmingham Al 35242

Thanks for your help

Thank you again for taking on this project..Rush to the Post office right after receiving your email... But I had a very hard time letting go of our great claw... Have carried it with me almost everyday since you send the necklace here. It needs your help..I would like a Mex. opal to be inlayed in the middle where the metal is in the middle of the claw..I removed the bear on the side in a fit of poor choice..but holding it like I do for long periods of time..the bear didn't feel comfortable to hold... And now going to gift it to my wife Rosa and she loves Mex fire opals..So if you can add that to my wish list..and cost..Do you ever use baleen in your work...I love the black color very much. Best to you Marc

Thank you for your timely reply...Don't need the hair on but though the knuckle end had a skin like these images of your great claw...Have been soaking them to clean them up a bit but didn't want to mess them up a bit..Can send them asap to you ..should I work on them more? And how do you want to work on payment..some up front or? Thank you for taking this project on..Your art has made many of my friends very happy. And now will make even more people happy.. Will send the next 10 when I have more money.. Thank you again Best Marc
He previously wrote--- and to add a note- I work on bear claws but it has to be other people's claws they send for me to work on I cannot supply the claws
. Hello again from San Francisco...just recieved from my good friend 2 sets of 10 front claws from a small Kodiak bear and a Brown bear.A gift from his grandfather...that now he has gifted me.He recieved one of your amazing creations from me..in a rough period of his life. All claws are not cleaned still have fur and knuckle on.I was hoping you could create pieces that have the knuckle still on and create a band like the one in this picture 014 with ivory topes that have a modest top for a necklace like the ones in the images 033.I still have a few of the claws from your first creation for me.But in the past years have given away most of them to friend in spirit bags also solo necklaces with a few mammoth ivory beads for power of the sacred bear and your powerful art work full of your creative TLC.So if you would consider working your magic again for me to share with others. If interested Email me when you have time with a ball park amount per piece...and then work from there... Peace Joy etc etc to you. Best Marc PS what product do you use to bring the shine out in your claws. The amazing claw that you shared with me is very dull now from me wearing it and handling it almost every day all these years. Again thank you and happy holidays

Miles.. The ivory worked out great.. I did like you said and stabilized it.. I use a dark colored epoxy and then some super glue. Cut and flat sanded them and I got to tell ya.. Ill take more of that ivory or similar if you have it!! lol I learned a new trick. and for that I thank you!

The method you are using to heat treat is acceptable.. do you draw it back after quench? That's the only thing I would recommend.. put the blade in a 350* oven for one hour.. two times.. that makes the edge not so hard its chippy and brittle. You most likely know these things.. yet Im just trying to help.

The ivory you just got sounds great! Congrats on the score.. Got to love it when a plan comes together!

So 5 blades are heading your way.. Thanks you for the lesson in stabilizing ivory and teaching this old dog a new trick.. I hope to learn more form you in the future.

God Bless.

I have to say your website is a little hard to follow but worth the time it takes to get what you are all about.

Hey Miles,
I wanted to let you know that the Mammoth Tusk arrived here yesterday. Thank goodness you boxed it up well, because the box looked like it had been dragged from Fairbanks to here....
But everything arrived OK and it is a great display piece. I have to be honest with you - I had second thoughts about spending $500 on a tusk, especially since I am currently unemployed - but I'm glad I did. I love it - its great !!!
Thanks again, and I hope you have a great Christmas and New Year !!!!

I just wanted to let you know I received the Musk Ox horn today. I love it- thanks !!!
If you have any more musk ox tips the same size or longer, send me some pics and prices. I have a feeling some of my friends are going to want one too.

Tuesday, December 13, 2011
Well I bought it Miles !!! You should get the PayPal payment soon. It was either buying this, or new tires on my truck - and you won….haha!!
I really appreciate the information on your email below - and I would love any other history, story, pictures and info you could provide on the tusks history. You could always email me the pictures and story about finding it when you get time at a later date. I get as much enjoyment from what I will be thinking about when looking at this tusk, as its actual appearance. And pictures of where is was found would be awesome - I do plan on putting some kind of complete display together for this in my home.
The thought of it being found on the great Yukon River just makes it that more appealing and interesting to me !! And Yes, I would love if you could send some of the bones you found with it. If that increases the shipping cost, just let me know, I will pay it. You will probably really package it well for protection - and if that costs you more than you plan on, I will gladly pay extra for that too.
Once again - I really appreciate your extra effort in all you have done for me on this Mammoth tusk and the Musk Ox horn you already sent me. I have a bit of “artistic dreamer” in my blood, and these pieces will provide me with a connection with the Alaska I have always dreamt about.
Thank you so much for your time and work,
Mark Kucera

Hi Miles. I got this set of mammoth ivory today and it's great. You always come up with good stuff at a fair price. I like dealing with you. Always interested in mammoth ivory. Read your whole site, by the way. You have lived a very interesting and adventerous life. Thanks for taking the time to post all that on your website for us to read. I will show you what I make with the ivory when I get around to using it. I like to let it sit here and acclimate to my location for a while. I have other sets of mammoth and some walrus ivory that I got from you that I haven't used yet but will pretty soon. I won't forget about sending you pictures. I'll always watch your site for more mammoth. I love the stuff. Thanks again. John Doyle

Hello Miles! Just got the materials yesterday. Very nice.Never worked with such stuff but looking foreward to do so.Imust read about how to work with it. Brought the cave bear fang last night when I was babysitting for a friend and the children was so excited. The 5 year old little girl was crawling around on to floor with the fang in her mouth playing she was a cave bear and we all laught. The fossil walrus is offcourse brilliant .If you have any more I would like to order some. could have been nice with some end slices with different colores for inlays too. Here the weather conditions are exceptional .No frost and no snow. Hoping for a period with frost and strong ice on so we can go ice fishing before the snow starts falling. Steffen

Hi Miles Just wanted to say thank you for the great selection. I have some great ideas for most everything you've sent. I love the moonstones and lace agate. So here is my question, can I keep ordering the $50 sampler ~(I realize that it would be different each time) or is that just a first time buy? Hope your harvest went well. Talk with you soon! Laura Lee Morrison

Hey Miles!
I have GREATLY enjoyed the book! You would laugh if you saw what I have done to all three volumes. First, as I told you, I have had them all "hard bound", and then, because I tend to "speed read", (and hence miss a lot of details), I force myself to slow down and read more "word for word", and I do this by underlining what I consider key phrases or ideas. But- after going through the books many times, there is almost more of the books underlined in red ink than than there is not underlined!
I thank you for your patience in awaiting payment!
Cheers!
Dave

I like the way you do business. Open and up-front. Your numbers are right on the money. Thank you. As for the fair, well I glad it's here, because, I usually do more business. This is because, a large number of the vendors, go to the fair, to offer their products. More, tourists for me! Thanks again, and I will send you another check, this Thursday.

Well Miles... I must say that I totally enjoyed reading about your life from your youth of 22. I could only imagine what it would be like to leave everything that you know behind to become a part of Alaska. I am a city girl, born and raised. I don't enjoy fishing because they eluded me, I don't enjoy hunting because seeing an animal go down... hurts my spirit, although I understand the need to survive in the wilderness and acknowledge that the good Lord has made our survival available. What I appreciate is what we find.... that become treasures...your treasures~ so I will be reading about Paypal and figure out how it works. I really believe in your words of honesty and forthright. I strongly believe in giving my share to the entrepreneur, rather then "big business". So gather up a really good $50.00 special for me but give me a few days ....I don't do Paypal but I am willing to give it a try. I usually do checks or debt cards... so this is different for me. I am excited to see what you might include that may take my imagination to a higher level. Thank you Miles for this opportunity to do "good" business with you! Talk with you soon! Laura Lee Morrison

Miles, Received the materials today, looks great! Thank you very much for taking the time to explain things, and for being so accommodating. I really love the caribou, and the oosik is ideal for what I had in mind. The bison is a little different than I had in my mind, so I've gotta figure out a fun project for it. ;) The turquoise is exactly what I was looking for also. Thanks again brother! Javan

long and short is I really like your materials and your work I would like to get my next set of scales from you, I guess I just need to make up my mind on which. I wont burn to much of your time, just would like to know the options. I'm going back to your site and look around a bit, I will get back to you when I've made up my mind. when I do ill have minimum specs for the knife handle to try and make the cut a little easier, the specs below leave me a lot of room for grinding, I could cut them down a bit all around.
In closing I have to say I'm more than a bit envious of your lifestyle thanks

Hi Miles, yesterday I received the wolf fang. It's very nice and has no breaks or cracks, just what I wanted to make a pendant... Thank you very much for your great kindness. Best regards. Fran
(I had sent this) Hello Fran
I sent off the best fang I could come up with that fits your needs and hope it will be appreciated. Yes I understand your situation and is why I have gone out of my way to try to help. Let me know it arrives ok. Miles

Great idea for a sheath, a craft show, thanks. I did take the knife to a local gun shop for a sheath, and the store owner was kind of blown away by it. Just kept staring at it for at least 5+ minutes. Hope you weren't affected by that big 7.2 earthquake off your Pacific coast... Take good care. Sandy

Mile's I'm totally shocked. I got your knife today, boy that thing sure crossed the continent quickly!
Great looking knife. I ran it across my arm & it did a pretty good job taking 80% of the hairs off on the first stroke.
Thank you for selling this to me, I consider it an honor. Nice looking knife, I really appreciate it.
I'm building a collection from all the makers on that site, well, the ones that I like.
This is really nice, I appreciate it, you take care fella, ^5

FYI Miles: I have finished the knife handle, and it came out beautifully: sanding for 2 days, 2 coats of natural stain, sanded between them, 5 coats of Helmsman Clear Gloss Spar Urethane, sanding between. I wanted semi gloss, but was told that the clear gloss is stronger and better protection. I've been looking for a sheath, no luck yet since the blade is so wide, which gives it a special character. I'll find a sheath though, or resort to a zipper case. I'll send you a photo when I get one. Thanks again for a terrific knife. Sandy Cohen

Hi Miles: The knife came yesterday and it is gorgeous. The blade looks like a piece of fine jewelry. I'm going out today to buy the sandpaper and stain and oil, etc. to finish the handle. Thanks Miles, this is one really special knife. I've never seen a knife like this. Sandy

I just sent you $100. So I'm assuming $80 worth of stuff plus the rest in shipping, or however you work it. I figured I can always use lots of wolf parts for crafting purposes. Small toe bones for beads (I can drill them myself), claws, teeth, bones of all kinds (leg, spine, foot, etc.), etc. Whatever. Just surprise me. If you can fit in a wolverine tooth in there that would be cool--if not, whatever you can get in there. I've never been disappointed with anything you've sent me. Just let me know whenever it goes out, and thanks again Miles. Great working with you as always. Hope you have a great summer and we'll be in touch I'm sure.

Hi Miles: Thank you very much. I've never been involved with the making of a knife, so I really don't know what's involved. I've read a little about it, but it all seems overwhelming to me. I'm a retirmed lawyer from Phila., so I am not good with my hands. My old boat mechanic used to tell me that I was my boats' worst enemy. Anyway, I got killed in the real estate crash and recession, so I'm now kind of sitting on the sidelines. I really do appreciate all you've done here. Thanks again. I don't seem to find many good folks around these days, maybe I'm too negative, but you are certainly one of the good ones. Thanks for the knife finishing instructions. I'll let you know how it comes out. Sandy

Hello Sir,
Lord is that a beautiful knife.
Would you please give me a price on it? I really really really really really really like it, have always admired you, but that knife w/ the etching & guard, entire package just speaks to me directly. Serious, and your comment on that page was right on.
Please sell me that knife. Please give me a fair price :)

Miles, I think the caps look amazing, great work!!! I really like the unique color in the fang. I think that your thoughts with the wolf bone beads, moose antler beads, and using trade beads for accent would be awesome! I am anxious to see the finished product, go forward and I trust in your decisions. Thanks again for all your hard work and effort. It is starting to get gorgeous here also, blue skies and my daughters strawberry patch is growing wildly! I love this time of year. Take care and hope to hear from you soon! Kyle

Hi Miles,
Man, it sounds like you've got a really cool lifestyle, and I'm looking forward to hearing about what you find this Summer! I've been wondering--that cave bear skeleton that you have pictured on your site with you standing next to it--did you find that?
I think that deal sounds good--$850 for the 8 lb. + 3 lb. I've got to get to the bank to move some money around, should be able to do that today or tomorrow at the latest. Thanks so much!

My name is Kyle Naiman, I came across your website and was very impressed. I attached a picture of the Wolf Fang necklace, for reference. I have always had a love for nature and wonders that make it up. I am 29 and have always had a strong desire to do what you did, go into the wild! Time has passed and I now have a wonderful wife and two beautiful little girls, so my desires are still strong, but my goals have changed. The necklace: A N Cwolf 311 really is beautiful, but I have a neck that is in need of at least a 24 - 25 inch necklace. The pictures look as if this necklace is much shorter? I would love to purchase the Wolf Fang pictured, with the brass Eagle cap or at least one similar, and two wolf claws with similar end caps (brass wolf head or eagle). After studying your art and story, I would be honored to be able to purchase a piece of your work. I trust in your quality and judgment, so if you think the claws and fang would look good together, then I trust it is so. I am 6' 2" and 230 lbs so the larger and stronger the claws and fang, the better. I love the unique and wonderful things that have a story. Please let me know what you think. I look forward to hearing back from you, and I hope to do business with you for a long time to come! Thanks for your time and consideration. Kyle

Hello Marc
Sounds good. Keep in mind too I am simply not that great at following directions- instructions. Never worked for anyone in my life lived alone in the wilds 25 years. Just used to doing it my way when I want how I want . Sounds nice, up till someone ahs a request! Ha! Sometimes I simply forget what I did last time. Once something is done it is the past and forgot- it is one way to be able to part with stuff I put my heart in top. I can then focus on now and the future if I can let go of the past. if that makes sense. Spring arrives here good time of year getting greenhouse going lots of outdoor things to do now that the dark cold of winter is past! Have a good day. Miles

Best funnest coolest letter I have received in quite a while. You do what you think is right ... Earth tones light to dark.... Thank you Marc
